Anime to premiere April 10
Aniplex began streaming a teaser video on Wednesday for Nanana’s Buried Treasure episode 1: “I Was Disinherited and Exiled.” The series will premiere on Fuji TV’s Noitamina block April 10.
In the video, Jūgo says: “16 years old. My first time living alone. I’m here, southern island! 8 tatami-mat size, 1 window, 1 room bargain price property is my castle! I was welcomed in by a landlady with a nice body, and my excitement for this new life is rising! …But it comes with a lot of other things too?! I was duped!”
Kazuma Ōtorino’s original novel centers around the treasure of Nanana, a ghost who was once a beautiful but NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) girl. A boy named Jūgo was disowned by his father and forced to transfer to a high school on the “Special Student Zone,” an artificial island. With only 40,000 yen (about US$400) a month to live on, Jūgo chooses a low-rent apartment that happens to be haunted by Nanana. Jūgo and members of the school’s adventure club join a “treasure hunt royale” on the island for the Nanana Collection, a treasure that possesses a mysterious power.

Kanta Kamei (Bunny Drop, Tales of Vesperia ~The First Strike~, Oreshura) will direct the series, and Hideyuki Kurata (Read or Die, Samurai Flamenco, Oreimo) will handle the series composition. Additionally, Tetsuya Kawakami (chief animation director and sub-character design for Sword Art Online) will adapt Akaringo’s novel illustrations for animation, and Keigo Hoashi (Dusk maiden of Amnesia) and monaca (Star Driver, Wagnaria!!, Aikatsu!) will handle the music. Voice actress unit Sphere will perform the ending theme “Kasukana Hisokana Tashikana Mirai.” A-1 Pictures will animate the series. The studio previously animated a promotional video for the novel in December 2011.

Ōtorino and Akaringo launched the novel series in January 2012, and the seventh installment will ship on March 29. The novel won the top prize in the 13th Enterbrain Entertainment Awards in September 2011. In addition to the novel, Hitoshi Okuda launched a manga version in Kadokawa’s Famitsu magazine in January 2012, and Enterbrain published the second compiled volume in March. The first volume of a spinoff novel series, Tensai’s Reluctant Deduction, shipped in August.
